This zoomed shot of the old executive office building was shot in December of 2001 a few days after Christmas at dusk. I was waiting on darkness to go looking for the national Christmas tree. Shot at 300mm, I was actually much farther away than I look like I am. In these Washington posts I normally complain about sweltering heat and humidity, but in this case it was 20 degrees, windy and absolutely freezing. Speaking for the American “silent majority” of people who really don’t identify as purely republican or democrat and generally think both parties are loony, I have to say on our behalf one thing – work it out, guys. Government workers all over the country are part of a useless and dangerous shutdown because both republicans and democrats are crying that they aren’t getting their way. Compromise – it’s what civilized societies do. Shoot photos, not each other!
