This is one of the earliest and definitely the most misunderstood photos I ever shot in 1999 when I first purchased my Canon Rebel 2000. Having just gotten off at the Smithsonian metro station, I was doing what all tourists do – I explored the streets of Washington, D.C. All of a sudden, mid morning on a bitterly cold January day during the lull of traffic that happens after everybody has gotten to work, this amateur silver painted school bus rushes by with a guy shouting from a megaphone “WAKE UP, AMERICA!!!”
According to the graffiti on the back of the bus – “YOUR PREACHER IS A LIAR. EZE 34 JER 23:15”
Ezekiel 34 (WEB) begins with – Yahweh’s word came to me, saying, “Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel. Prophesy, and tell them, even the shepherds, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Shouldn’t the shepherds feed the sheep?”
Jeremiah 23:15 (WEB) – Therefore Yahweh of Armies says concerning the prophets: “Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink poisoned water; for from the prophets of Jerusalem ungodliness has gone out into all the land.”
Ezekiel is making the point that leaders of Israel at that time in history oppressed their people. Jeremiah refers to Canaanites that worshipped Baal, the primary god of the Phoenicians. So is our preacher lying and the truth is that the old testament didn’t oppress Jews and God doesn’t care if you worship Baal? I would love for an ordained minister to weigh in on this one if there are any out there on wordpress. What exactly are you lying about? What are the drivers of this bus yelling at America to wake up to?
Meanwhile, there is one thing I am not lying about – Shoot photos, not each other!
