Independence Day

In a time when the freedom of religion, speech and press have never been in greater jeopardy, women’s rights are being pummeled by a resurgence of the patriarchy, and “united” has never gone less well paired with “states of america,” we celebrate our Independence Day.

This flag flying over the Old Executive Office Building was shot on July 4, 1999 and is among some of the earliest photos I ever shot.

How about we move on from arguing about guns and try to shoot photos, not each other?
